Re: Hounds
Noise attracts attention.

Until last week, we had a Doberman and a street dog. Whenever the vet came, he was terrified of the Doberman, because she was loud and appeared ferocious. In truth, she would have welcomed any burglar in for tea and biscuits. The street dog, although smaller, is far more ferocious than the Doberman.

Re: Hounds
Yeah but who wants a yappy handbag dog??

Just train your dog to bark on alerts (door bell going, noise, blokes dressed up in balaclavas) ... like I said the majority of robbers will move on if they know you have a hound at home... it just makes common...

bushey - the PROs reckon smaller dogs are more a deterrent also.

Sorry NS mate, I'm agreeing with you.

I was referring to Trundle's post.

Ha ha ha!!

Bushey.... not saying they are scared but it's a fact that houses with dogs are far less likely to get burgled

4. Get a Dog. Believe it or not, there are open online forums you can read about ”pro” thieves giving tips to want-

to-be robbers. I know, I’ve read them! If you can wade through all the bad language, you can really pick up some useful insight. Thieves don’t like dogs because 1.) they’re noisy and 2.) their teeth are scary.

TIPS: o put a mean dog sign up on the front of your fence.

o have a dog to back up the sign.

o if you can, allow your dog to be inside while your gone. If not, make sure he has full access to the side yard where your gate is as well as the backyard.

a bullmastiff is what you are looking for.

wonderful looking dogs, lovely, loyal and protective.

Coff

Bloke near me has one of those. It crashed into the side of my legs when it was chasing a ball.

Done both ligaments of my left knee.

Absolute beasts.

Re: Hounds
Boxers are great dogs. Very loyal, friendly and kind.

Will definitely raise the alarm should someone come knocking in the night.

Mad as a march hare mind you. Family one is 8 now and still pretty much a puppy.

Re: Hounds
You're better off with a small yapping dog, something like a Jack Russell, over some big softy. You'll find that burglars are not afraid of dogs, but they are afraid of noise.

Bloke I know had 2 Rotties and got robbed... he was not best pleased ... they are as soft as Marshmallows mind you....

Dobbies and GSD's are great guard dogs but need shed loads of exercise... if you can't get them out they'll go schizo and chew your TV and after they done with that they'll chew your face off

riosleftsock 2:13 Mon Jul 4
Re: Hounds
GSD is a good shout, I'd personally go for a rottweiler though.

Great family pets, and only a complete fucking idiot would take one on.

Re: Hounds
`So ideally not a Lab as I’ve read they are way too friendly to be protective`.

Mine is extremely protective of our home and garden... he's fine once I have invited whoever is at the door, gate in but otherwise he's a whole load of noise... few years back I crept in and stuck a balaclava on just to see what his response was... have to say I have seen my hound in a different light at his response... he is a field trial Lab rather than your Show labs so that makes a big difference... he also Hates Nazis and the KKK and can sniff them out...
